Motion carries. Six is communications and reports. Uh, starting with the superintendence report. Thank you, Mr. C. Dr. Mars.

It's uh been a long time since we've had a superintendent report um because of the holiday, but obviously many many good things going on throughout the district. Recognize some of our students for their achievements and experiences. First up is we're going to recognize Isaac Wood. Congratulations for receiving first place in the Skills USA competition. Uh Isaac received first place in the district building construction. That's our competitive district here in Burks County. Um and then he with that Isaac qualifies for the state competition in April. Um it's first place. Isaac demonstrated strong technical skill accuracy and professionalism in demanding handson uh cont demanding hands-on contest that tested industry relevant construction knowledge and practices. So very exciting to see get a first place the skills USA. Congratulations to Isaac and looking forward to the state competition in

April. I didn't have a picture here unfortunately, but FBLA just before the holiday uh participated in their first regional business competition at Kutztown University. If you recall, this is our first full year of FBA. It was approved mid year last year and um Mr. Simmons and his team brought it to the board to approve the u to bring FBALA back to Cotenary High School. The uh startup was supported with some funding through a mini grant with the education foundation. Uh so congratulations to our students who participated and competed. Owen McFarland uh chief first place in accounting where Alan Muller third place in accounting. Um business law, Daniel Urick first place finish. Business management Pton Ziggler second place finish. Social media strategies Abigail Adam and Elliot Johnson had a first place finish. uh they beat the

reigning state champions in that event. And in journalism, um Eleam Jones with a third place finish. In personal finance, Kada Chichion uh was third place. And sports and entertainment management, um Amadushir first place finish and Kiara Shell third place finish. So just a lot of success, especially for a first year of team competitions. Um there's just a lot of excitement amongst that group. Congratulations and and continued success. Good area high school wrestling and both the boys and girls side experienced success over the last several weeks. First cong congratulations to Emily Boyer and Cassia Sherry for winning the BCIAA girls individual wrestling tournament on Saturday, January 10th. Um Emily is the 106 pound champion and Cassie is the 112 pound champion. So congratulations to our our champions. Other place winners include AJ Blank with fourth place,

Zayn Cherry with fifth place on the boy side, Isaac Wood sixth place, and Royce Bitner with sixth place. Um, lots of success at the BCIA uh championship. In addition, this Saturday, um, an early arrival before some of the weather conditions at Octura High School wrestling uh, tournament. Congratulations to our girl wrestlers. Emily Boyer first place, Gasia first place, and AJ Blank second place this Saturday. Um, lots of success within the wrestling program. Congratulations to you all. Friday, January 9th, our cheerleaders participate in the PIAA competitive spirit championship. This uh picture is from a different event from a UCA event that happened previously, I think earlier in December where they were division winners. Uh but just congratulations to our girls for participating in that PIAA competitive spirit championships in Johntown the weekend of Friday the 9th

and Saturday the >> and boy apologize. Yes. Our cheerleaders. Yes. Yes. Yes. Thank you for the Thank you for the correction. >> My kids. >> Congratulations. Uh on Thursday the 15th, the high school uh girls basketball team hosted their pink out for cancer awareness game. As you can see, you can't get pinker shirts than that. I don't like um very very bright pink out shirts for both for their game versus Fleetwood. Um at the game, Mrs. Jen Bigglin, uh who has been fighting her battle against cancer for several years now, was at the game to support with the girls. Both Ava Kutz and Claire Schnorf spoke about the impact of Mrs. Big has had on them as a teacher and a coach and just rallied some support around Mrs. Bigglin and her family. Um, just

congratulations to the girls who are having a fantastic season and are on track to um, potentially make districts for the first time in a long time for our girls basketball team, but also to take this special opportunity for cancer awareness and to celebrate a teacher and mentor, Mrs. big one who is a mentor in so many ways but in her courageous fight against cancer is just one more example. Um and just to see her smiling and happy to be there is was really incredible. >> Great job the girls team. Um the high school academic challenge team is 5 and0 just before the holiday. They participated in uh an event at BCIU and you can see that the team members posed around the uh picture of a at one time very young and handsome superintendent. Um

but they don't update our pictures at BCIU. Uh it's we don't age at all on the wall, but in real life we do. Um but I enjoyed the the humor in the picture that they sent back for for promotion. So, congratulations to the high school academic challenge team at 5-0 and continued success into the new year. And last but not least, January is schoolboard recognition month. We are very fortunate here to have dedicated servants of our community. Um, today appropriately it is on Martin Luther King Day, a day of service where we get to honor um our school board members who dedicate their time and energy to better our community. Um I I don't think there's a better school board in Pennsylvania. Um we are very very fortunate. I think the minimum number of hours

if you were just to attend meetings is about 65 66 hours of service and that's just to attend the meetings. Um doesn't count the countless hours that go into um listening to constituents um problem solving and and the time that you lend and support to us. So we are grateful. These are the principles of governance and leadership that have been adopted um um by the school board as policy 011 is to advocate earnestly, lead responsibly, govern effectively, p plan thoughtfully, evaluate continuously, communicate clearly and act ethically. And you know there I feel confident and honored to serve with the board that upholds these qualities of policy um 01. Uh so thank you for your service. The time that you dedicate to the district is really a credit to just the community-minded um focus of the

Quan area and thank you for representing the constituents and always advocating for our students. Thank you Christian. >> Um with that we can move into the board uh committee reports. The first one on the list is BCTC. So, >> there was no meeting since the last meeting we had. It's not till next week. >> Okay. Thank you. We'll look for the report in a month. Uh BCIU source. >> Thank you. Um I have three things I think are worth passing along. They hosted their annual BCIU artwork showcase and there's a student selected from all participating school districts in the county and Ava Adam was the winner and want to pass that around. Want to take a look at the artwork. Each of those are framed and given to each of the board members um for

appreciation month. And then they came out with their sixmonth date of the unit update. If anybody's interested, I'm just going to hang on to this because there's a lot of information there, but that just summarizes every six months each of the each office provides highlights of accomplishments and then goals. And then they also the proposed mandated service services budget uh came out and that's up 3% that's what the participating school districts provide to the IU which is like less than 1% total funds I believe something like that. It's a small amount but um that I think was probably sent out you maybe a week or two. So we'll probably vote on that. >> We'll vote on that next meeting. >> Yeah. And I think that's set by PDE. So I think that's some that concludes.

>> All right. Thank you. And PSBA. >> No readers. >> Okay. Thank you. Uh then we will jump over to extracurricular facilities. Thank you. Uh under extracurricular we uh had a discussion on the calendar for athletics and the musical and how they're generated uh due to feedback for increasing family time. We follow what the PIAA allows for sports. Um all athletics and the musical especially require a lot of work to be successful. So we just as of right now we didn't change anything in how we generate that calendar. Um, we were also told about some possible repairs to the marquee at the high school. We had two options presented based on what might be required, but we held off on that until we find out a total cost replacement for and updating the marquee. >>

Yeah, that just came in um today. And you know, the different options are 20 to $22,000. Um you know so it's just something we'll have to evaluate whether I think there's a larger conversation you know of whether is the direction we want to go into the future you know and the best course of action might right now just be to fix it you know and then we'll extend the life but the we are past the expected life as you had predicted so um so it's just a larger conversation I think about direction so probably talk about that next meeting then >> yes so okay >> and then uh under facilities. We were given a very entertaining presentation on our current land situation by Josh Hoffman. If anybody missed it, I suggest looking at the video.

Um, on tonight's agenda is a proposal to lease a data line between us and Brandy Wine School District to allow for a backup system to maintain access to the internet while also this will increase our bandwidth and our firewall protection while also reducing our overall cost for the the security as well too. And then uh Mr. Tim Chatton gave us an update on the Ed Foundation successfully reaching their goal for the stage to future project and I guess now we're just going to wait to hear back from what they're going to be proposing. >> Yes. >> Yeah. Very exciting. And um should be over the the reality is it's probably over the next couple months we'll identify exactly what the direction will go. It's likely to be a summer upgrade. We get in there to

get get the work done. And that concludes my report. >> All right. Thank you. And then uh Mr. Whismer, back to you for policy and curriculum. >> Thank you. Uh we had two policies that were requested by some board members for review. 004 on membership, 005 organization. Um there were some items that we looked at for organization possibilities, just some adjustments or possible changes. And I think we concluded it was something to look at for um looking at for going into next year. So next reorgan reorganization meeting we can evaluate which one of those changes might make sense. Um, and then for membership, we just kind of started a discussion on that one and we left that where Miss Hulk is going to be looking at some language to bring back at a later point

to discuss some more and then the rest of them are just policies that Okay, thank you. Oh, we can move into our student representative Port Olympia or Lindsy. >> Um, not much has happened since the last meeting. Um, but we had a few of our students represent Ktown at the PVA District 10 chorus festival and this past week and although the concert got cancelled, we had um our senior county uh band, chorus and orchestra um in practice. So, Mr. Sh went along with them. So, I heard that was really fun. Um, and then upcoming next month, we have our student council blood drive, the second one of the year. So, signups are should be out for that soon. >> Great. Thank you, >> Lindsay. All right. Perfect. We do permit outside signups as well. Like,

it's not just folks inside. So, if you have an opportunity when the sign comes out, you can join us. Please do. The the the group does a great job organizing itself. Very good.
