good evening i'd like to call this meeting to order thank you to everyone coming tonight they're in the back if you haven't done so if you would please in if you have anything in particular that you would like to bring to the board's attention please indicate that you would like to speak on the sign-in sheet after our normal business this evening there will be time for public comments on agenda items if you are attending via zoom please use the raise your hand feature to be recognized to speak and that we will start with the curriculum agenda items the first being the agriculture lab update thank you miss holt this evening with us mrs brown is joining us representing the ag program to discuss some of the progress and some of the activities that have been
afforded to students some learning opportunities since the reborn um back in march i'm trying to remember we weren't in session i don't think we're in the barns officially um completed so i think it was back in march of 2020 thank you all for taking a few moments tonight to hear some about the agricultural learning lab the bar this was our first year in operation and despite covet and some of the hurdles we faced it was a very successful year um so i have with me tonight tracy zieter she's our ffa president and she's going to share a little bit of a student perspective and then we can share some more of the logistics i just wanted to start out by thanking you all for your support throughout this whole year even though it was a
hard year we got a lot done in the barn and did a lot of amazing things and had a lot of great opportunities throughout the year and we raised two steer calves and then we sold them to esport spring feeder sale we also raised about 24 broiler chickens and with the meat we donated to friends inc the local food bank and that was a great opportunity to just a community and what we did went to a good place and we provided the community with sustainable home raised food that came from the agricultural program and overall we had a lot of great learning opportunities and it was great to see everything that happened throughout the year thank you um so as tracy said this year our two main projects that we were able to do from
october to april we raised two holstein sears that were sold in the spring in the future it's possible that our projects would continue throughout the summer but after this school year we just decided to give everyone a little bit of a break so right now the barn is empty for the summer so that we can gear up for next school year and in the spring we were able to hatch and raise 24 broiler chickens which the students themselves then had the opportunity to actually process so they got to see that process from the very beginning of those eggs being incubated all the way to the end of holding that meat in their hands which as tracy mentioned we then got to donate so for those students to be able to go through that process not
a lot of people get the chance to put food on someone else's table so that was really exciting and friend inc was so excited about that the project we're definitely going to continue we really enjoyed that so moving into the future one thing that we discussed a lot this year was funding and making sure that our projects are sustainable this year our funding did come from the district through the program's budget so we did spend about 2500 on the projects for the barn and that again came from the ag program budget in the future the ag program and the barn itself will be more self-sustaining so the grants and community support as well as any income that we make so when we sold the cavs we did make about a thousand dollars on them and
in some other projects that we're planning for the future we plan for the barn to be sustaining and not have to rely on district funding which is really exciting again especially for the students to be able to see these things happening and get them into those opportunities all of my classes had the opportunities to be involved this year there were nine students who volunteered to be barn managers tracy being one of them so on weekends and holidays they were always coming in to make sure that the animals were cared for and i do have to give a big thank you to the maintenance crew as well on snow days and coveted closures they always made sure that if i wasn't able to come in the animals were cared for so overall it was a really
wonderful year i learned a lot that we can do moving forward and i know the students got a lot from it as well our plan for next year is to continue with the projects we've already started so to do we've seen steers again and some broiler chickens as well as laying hens we've gotten lots of requests for eggs so that's something we're really looking forward to and just seeing where the internet and students and the will really guide us for the future so moving forward like i said we're gonna stick with those two projects for now and just see where things go but again just thank you for your support i know that this has been a project in the making for many many years so to see it happen especially in such a tough
year was really rewarding and i know that the kids got a lot out of it as well a question about the chickens were they provided to friend whole or did you have this also do the the cutting they were provided whole so the students did the process of butchering them and then we shrank wrapped the bags and we provided the whole chicken so we provided 24 chickens that family had to take home that's fine real quick i would just like to speak up and um you know taking that project just an outstanding opportunity for our kid sounds like you're doing great things with us thank you i i was just about to make a similar comment i got to visit the barn earlier this year those great examples of student leadership in action so thank
you for taking on that role accepting that thank you for you know we've seen already we're not going to draw a direct causation to barn activities and having that lab on site you know to an increase in student enrollment within our egg programs we know we see those student requests going up since you've taken over the program i think some of that activity is is related to being able to have some animals on site so it's a great credit to the program thank you thank you okay that brings us to item b public comments on science standards yes and this is um dr quinn uh his business this evening to share on behalf of the state board of education that back in 2019 state board of education began the process of updating the pennsylvania science
standards and engaged volunteer and then educators throughout the state to help review and draft those standards the standards then were um voted to adopt as a proposed regulation in chapter four and per the process to the state the standards now just be available for vue for 30 days from june 5th when they were first posted where they are accepting comments and the proposed rulemaking may be submitted to the board of education the state board of education um for those 30 days it's a notification that this is a state project this is not local standards they do become the state standards that you know in terms of developing our curriculum but it's a level at this point that there's 30 days from june 3rd to review and comment on the science standards the new standards would
have a focus on science and technology environment and ecology any questions related to the comment period of science yeah it's it's probably uh can you folks hear me you know can i hear can you sense that means we can move into the policy portion uh can you hear me i think dr darian may be trying to speak oh i'm sorry oh i was having the same problem earlier um i think there's a i think our feed's uh a little messed up dr darian were you saying something yeah uh eric was just trying to speak as well i can hear him but apparently you can't either uh can you hear me no i don't think they can hold on now now dr darin um i think we can hear you now okay can you yes we
can uh it's probably way too late to say much about these standards they're going to be enacted but they seem a little too prescriptive to me i know they didn't want to do that but the practice of science is intentionally included with the performance expectation which almost means that there's a prescription as to how various uh content matter is to be taught or how it's to be demonstrated that the student understands it uh that's my only concern is is it very prescriptive and not as general as i remember the old standards of being yes i would agree that they're way more specific than than what standards are i didn't count how many but quite a few educators from across the state um helping develop the proposed standards and as you said it may be it
may be too late to have any changes like that but anyone who has wish to comment and comment to stay there it's not as obvious as the older standards uh way back a hundred years ago when they first came out but it it smacks of a person on the committee saying well this is how i teach it i think it ought to be a standard but it's probably going to go the way of the other standards it's the people who write the tests that actually set the standards on the department of education websites there's a list of those who contributed to the standards uh representing across the states and some state universities as well as a few other organizations but mostly science across the country okay that that's my public comment it's not that i
think it's going to have any effect all right thank you dr varian anything further on the science standards okay now we can move into the policy portion and the first policy for review is 001 dr lieber thank you ms holt um there's there's several ways that policies come before a board committee um one is when there is a change in the law and then typically psba lawyers will weigh in and try to inform school districts how it how it impacts board policy and they'll update and give us and give us new language that that fits the laws that pertain to respective policies we also have um a rotation where we revisit policies and so tonight on our agenda is two of those policies we bring those as a review because otherwise we could go several
decades without looking at the policy that we have so we have a rotation where we try to emergencies in an orderly manner in front of the board uh to kind of refresh our memories as to what our policy is um and then to put a new review date on those and zero zero one name and classification um really is just about um our district and how we get our name it's not uh there's not a whole lot there but nonetheless a policy that dictates who we are and the name that we have so i would just ask if there's any comment on zero zero one naming classification again we're seeking to to merely put a review all right any concerns on this pretty straightforward short is classification in this policy based on school size or
um referencing discharge class right the state has some guidelines for that i think mr tim chattan's looking up it's yeah it is it is based on size of the community each school district having a population of one million or more shall be at the first those having 250 000 or more show and less than one million shall be of the first class a each school district having a population of 30 000 or more but less than 250 000 shall be the second class each school district having a population of 5 000 or more but less than 30 000 shall be a scholarship for the third class oh okay so it's our overall population not the not the school building popular buildings population yes that is correct any other concerns okay then mark that reviewed okay
thank you and then uh we're about a week too late right for student representation uh student board representation uh the the number is zero zero four point one and it is really all of the instructions and the guidelines for for student participation in the board um spells out how how a student might um campaign and how they might go about securing that position as being the student representative on the board uh it spells out one from the junior class the senior class as an alternate from the junior class and appropriately if we could take a moment to introduce the junior class representative for the 21 21-22 school year abigail wood welcome abigail welcome avenue um just congratulations you don't have to have anything to say if you wish you always are welcome too but uh
okay yeah so abigail i'll give you a copy of this it's your job description it's uh it's not a real hard job description we just we just value student input and uh that students understand what happens uh in the policy curriculum and you know all of the actions of the board so thank you for your willingness to serve in this capacity it's always interesting to learn how our school runs and know the details behind it one of the main reasons why i wanted to join one of the school representatives [Music] uh i think it was just great to know the details behind what our school does and what um we're trying to represent throughout the school and knowing the details behind it would be great to have one of the student impacts against this i'm
not against this for for this um and knowing more about it i think it will be great information to use as i progress further into my life thank you for your participation are there any comments or questions on policy 004.1 i do have a couple of quick things um an item nine the second paragraph since since this is ongoing we don't really need that anymore um and then i just kind of wanted to try number four with the duties where it talks about the student the student rep being invited to work sessions and the monthly board meetings and if invited by the committee but considering that they're public me it's i find it weird that we say that in there and then one other thing is number six under duties are we um providing those
materials to the student reps uh that's something that um really had not been happening but cooper and i discussed we're gonna be meeting with the process for making sure that uh they are included in that that's something we last monday evening before before we started um so we're gonna coordinate schedules and obviously have again we'll include you on that we've noticed a few things over the years i mean there was it was only a few years ago um you know when the student rep was being um being adopted in september once the school year started to move that back to may because it does follow along with policy so a few of these things over time they get timelines kind of had moved just simply because it was convenient for the students quite honestly but
um there was a lot to do to run in may that's probably you can test mapping girls the time of year that was challenging but we want to follow policy noticed a few things that need to be cleaned up yeah so um do we need to do those updates and then um i mean that's just that's actually just a practice agenda and making sure that we're meeting with them but in terms of these updates the invitation all right it's kind of unnecessary because everyone's invited you know but also as far as invitation you can consider an invitation to sit up table sure it's there the other piece was what the second paragraph kind of said that we are in um so yeah i would recommend we can just strike that piece we're no longer in
the first year of implementation strike it and put it on for a first reading um if just recommended by the committee mr tim chad are you you're referring to nine which which positions the second paragraph section number nine in the second paragraph which is just um okay that looks like some of the policies hence why we review them because this policy was adopted in 2009 it was necessary in 2009. okay right and and so then i guess just while we're while we're doing that since we went for uh for first reading um so they're terminally lasting from june i guess right since they're sitting at the table once school lets out yeah we really i mean technically their first meeting would be adopted they should be um approved in may and stating that the term
is really from july until june so per policy you're early but very welcome we'll take note of that as well um you know being that it's june for a senior i don't know maybe it's worth considering iteration if you're going to first reading and making it that they begin in june for policy um expecting seniors to come to the meeting in june after graduation it might be unrealistic right i think it kind of is yeah so let's look at that as well and just look to change the start date to june [Music] okay all right does anybody else have anything for this policy is there anything else i had a question about number eight sure i would have been disappointed if you didn't have a question number eight under its selection it says that the
elected sophomore student shall serve as alternative under the actual member during his or her junior year and shall assume the position of students who will be beginning in july before his or her senior year is is that what we're actually doing a fresh election every we do a fresh election yeah so should the second part then of the is that should that be removed i would recommend you remove that as well to make it a two-year commitment for a student is i think a lot so expect an option so it makes sense to remove that as well so it would end with his or her junior you're year yes okay that makes sense [Music] number eight at the end it's a civic table along with and have a place to store [Music] as well as
other board members agendas like that in any kind of past that i've seen but of course the student representative has always been encouraged to participate but assuming we we approve the policy this way we should probably start making that a good place on the agenda could could we make that at the time that we do all of the uh committee reports yeah it would be at the regular monthly meeting as one of the reports it would make sense just like i do my superintendent's good news report uh superintendent's report yeah the student rep could have an opportunity to comment and has no obligation to do so but would be the appropriate place to do that i think that would be a good idea just because i think it would be good to invite that discussion
because i don't want the person i want the person to feel welcome and encouraged to speak upon the agenda and i think by having a special placement industry i think maybe that will help facilitate that yeah i agree i mean of course more student participation by reps would be great so we can um add that to agendas going forward and clean up some of this language in the first review made it clear last week that he's going to be more than willing to speak um yeah and of course we're always very happy to hear from the students perspective where we are discussing anything where there's input from the student wrapped we've had a good deal as well we've had a good deal of comment from the student reps over the course of the last few
years each individual jewel commented on all every topic that came before the board and sydney did before her and and i know um in the policy here there is an encouragement for them in essence to be a liaison between the student body um particularly the student council in here so if they're if they have a place to speak that may encourage more of that to happen than we can happen in the past yes and cooper said last week he's sharing his e to students even at the middle school in elementary school for them to share anything they would like to have presented for not necessarily to report on but that sort of fall in line with as well okay so we would uh want to stay vote from the committee then to move this to
first reading with the amendments that were recommended number eight so rather than just striking out the option of having a two-year term could it be like if the alternate chooses to serve that second year that they have that opportunity and if they don't then the election would involve um two candidates if they do want to serve that second year then it would just be an election for the alternate just to give them that opportunity because they've already shown that leadership has come forward as an alternate potentially if they given the way that the policy is currently written neither way works functional standpoint do you have any thoughts this this would most directly impact you currently um with this like for me would i have to get the 50 signatures again and then write in qualifications
no what i'm suggesting is that you were already elected to be the alternate you would automatically assume that role your senior year if you would so choose to and then you wouldn't have to run for that election again i think procedurally if you did not want to you would like to resign really so you resign from that role and then we would have another election so so this would be as it is and with an understanding of a student who did not want to continue to resign as a student representative to the board my my only concern with that students who by the time of their senior year would decide they would like to be considered for that you basically saying too later you can't have so i'm not sure there's a problem with an
election where this person could run again you aren't closing the junior out from being elected you know from getting elected for their senior year as well so uh you know i if you have someone who's maybe a bit of a late bloomer um and deciding that this is really something they'd like to do we kind of close the door if the person who is the junior decides they want to serve so i you know that's the other side of that not just raising that as a bit of a devil's advocate i guess i sort of share that concern i mean you're really getting someone in their sophomore year sort of locking in through seniors i you know maybe allowing that internet to run without having to you know get a petition to get signed and
signatures and everything allowing them to run without having to do that not for stalling foreclosure [Music] yeah i would agree with that i think that's the most balanced approach we can certainly put in there you know we can put in a combination of those as was shared that the at the end of the term that the junior representative could indicate that they would like to run again without the need to get the signatures and then they would just be a part of the election operated to the office so it gives you an advantage of not having to go to that work again but yet still have to indicate that you're interested and have it open for someone else to be the representative is that sort of balance yeah so we'll we'll amend the language here
and send it out in the friday packet and then you'll see it for uh probably still all right so i i didn't quite catch the end of what you said we'll see it for first we'll draft some language and then we'll put it up for first reading in advance of monday great so is everybody in agreement with that that we would remove the stipulation that the junior would automatically deceive but they could they would ascend to the position in the senior year but they could stand for reelection without going through the signatures and the 500 word sa in the process but there if there was anybody who chose to challenge that seat that they would be able to do that if they went through the process process great excellent all right anything further on that
policy all right and this is why we review them so we can update them and get make our process a little bit better all right uh the next the next two um on on the agenda on the agenda for the 21st is uh policy 113 uh which is which is came about that's a that's a mandated policy that came about the change because of changes in the law 13.1 and 113.4 um are both lended policies that are related to 113 we do not currently have these policies generally speaking these policies speak to laws that we follow routinely in dealing with special education the reason i think it's worthy of consideration is this is what ultimately holds us accountable for what the law says we have to do so right now we're sort of keeping up
with it it's not that it's not that we pour over school board policy but when it is being dealt with school board policy is the thing that we ultimately will go to and so psba has has um recommended these two policies just for our own legal liability to ensure that we are following the law as as it is uh currently so if we take these one at a time 113.1 uh discipline of students with disabilities so there's a couple things i'd like to point out on the first page under under purpose the last line a positive behavior support plan so today all day i was in a training called safety care and we have um we have two teachers that we sent out uh to a conference last year to to become trainers for safety
care which is a mandated program that we have to train we have to have people in every building trained in actual safety care how do you go about it it has to do with restraints and de-escalation strategies mostly so it's not safety care training is not how do you restrain a kid it's how do you do everything humanly possible so that you don't have to restrain a kid and and so the safety care one of the things that that is a part of that training is a positive behavior plan for students so when a student is struggling in a classroom and they're struggling in the in the educational setting one of the things that the school needs to do under the law is is to create a positive behavior support plan and so that's articulated
in this policy uh there's a other things under the ethnicity there's also something a association term called a manifestation determination and the the law is the law speaks to when a student does something and that is a manifestation of their disability the the law has something to say about how they can be suspended the duration of their suspension um our special education department understands that but it's not language in a board policy and so that's why we recommend a policy like this because it helps us to understand timelines numbers of days etc that we would be employing when you're dealing with special education students and any kind of misconduct uh on the if you travel down um change in placement educational placement is is a category it's on page two in my copy there again
the law dictates how you can what you have to do in order to change an educational placement so a student p the law is very specific like canon and so this this policy against out and puts it in in plain language for for our for our schools um section on appeals um then there's an administrative removal to interim alternative education setting so there are three instances where a student could do something that a manifestation determination not apply so if a student does x y or z we have to determine whether or not their disability had anything to do with why they did that but there's three exceptions to that that are spelled out here that's a weapon has to do with illegal drugs and has to do in bodily harm on somebody else and in
those instances the the mandate for manifestation determination is not there a student can still be placed outside of the district in the instance of those three uh again wise to have that in board policy so that are that are syrians within the district when they're encountered with something like this although it's kind of a rare thing for us but uh that was one i wanted to point out as well and then you see at the at the bottom the the end of the policy it also mentions a positive behavior support plan something that we we do all of these now but this will be the board policy to support that so as you look through what what questions might you have the 45 day time period dr lever is that already prescribed by state or
federal law yeah all of this is in compliance with the law so once you get to that 45-day period what is there some type of due process hearing that takes place or what occurs to decide whether that student remains out of the district or comes back any student out of placement for disciplinary reasons must have a review meeting being called a hearing it's really a meeting every 45 days that's built into the programs that we would ever use as either an aedy or even a special education placement that has discipline attached to it so that would be the principal the parent the principal or director of the alternate program along with students would meet to review their progress towards their goals for that program because i mean if the behavior is one of the three
outlined criteria there i would assume that definitely five-day period to be out of the district could possibly be insufficient yeah that would be a remark out of the district it would be a remarkably successful program to remediate that those types of behaviors in 45 days or less that's usually going to be a year but it might not be something happens in september october it might be a review at the end of the year but the review will occur every 45 days yeah the 45 days is really designed to not not put the school in a position to have an offense of one of those where a student is able to come back building that's that's one where the law has said in these three instances you can put out for 45 days um three five
days but it doesn't free us up from going through the normal processes that we would go through for you know continuing exceptions were in there simply because even if you know if one of those exceptions are met and it is is a manifestation of the disability you still have the interest of the rest of the student body and safety that come into play that we still have an obligation to provide a safe environment that goes along with that student's right to um getting a manifestation determination here so just because it's a manifestation of their disability doesn't mean it's a certain behaviors are okay in this doesn't change anything that they're already doing these are updating our policies yeah it is far it is more likely our principles are leadership they are informed of changes in
the law but they are far more likely to refer to a school board on this than to go and read case law and so that's why i think pspa recommends and they they continue to give us policies that spell out what the world is so that we are holding ourselves accountable in the interest of what's best for kids and what is you know what they're making sure that their legal rights are being upheld children in situations like this i i'm recalling there was something else like that we had other policies out there that spoke to some of these elements but i don't i don't it's not saying there wasn't one i don't i don't recall one specific conversation about restraints i know we have lots of conversations in the office because of when we're transporting
students sometimes that becomes necessary and the the main component of the law here if a parent objects to that it's not something we can impose we have to come up with it has to be the parent agrees to but they agree yes this is something that is going to be helpful to the student any questions on this one all right well then all in favor of the first reading any pose okay thank you how are we doing that time um well there are 12 more minutes left in this meeting okay um this one is is very is very similar um if you want to push it until august we can to allow for public comment um if you want to tackle it let me know um let's let's try and tackle it and if it
takes just a couple minutes if it starts getting complex we can table it and bring it back yeah feel free to cut it off if it goes too long so this one has to do with so 113.4 confidentiality of special education student information and again again uh i think that that our professionals they know about confidentiality there's there's one thing in here that uh barry's not here that's not here and i didn't have a chance to ask him but i'm not sure that we're that we've presently done consistently and and according to the law maybe we should be but uh so it is it is about protecting the rights of students when we're sharing information and you know where it goes who has access what do we have to do when someone accesses a record
um what happens uh when we amend records upon parent rest uh hearings for records uh kind of the process for how you would go about a hearing none of these things that we've we've really encountered in recent memory mr tim chattan when you were in the assistant role i don't i don't think we did storage retention and destruction of information there's some compliance issues around that the big one is on the last page disclosure to law enforcement and this is new to um to their recommendation but when we are reporting an incident to the police there is apparently under the wall we have an obligation there their educational program with the police because that may enter into the decisions and consideration that they have and so it is it is making sure that we are
following all of the educational rights and privacy act when we're doing that any questions concerns on that one the big change is that paragraph under disclosures to law enforcement correct but we don't we don't currently have this policy so again we do we do all of these things routinely this would be to kind of codify it here within our community so when we talk about also talks about providing copies of the special disciplinary [Music] i don't believe that we do share uh educational records with the police not unless it's directly related to what the police are requesting because of an incident because we are sharing it so the only time when that occurs if it's directly the way that occur yeah special would that be like yeah behavior support plan would be the important one
if we have a behavioral support plan in place and we're and a student has done something against the law in the school it's it's our responsibility to to be forthright with this is the plan that we have in place for the student under the law i think we're compelled to require i think so i'm going to suggest that we bring this back in august because i feel like we're going to be rushing it if we continue to try to deal with it and we'll run out of time for the members of the public that wish to address good suggestion we don't have very many students between now and august all right then um is there anything further from the board for this committee this evening the only thing i would mention is on page four
dr lieber of this last policy um there is a shell in a may box that may need to be i guess yeah that would read director a supervisor of special education uh so that's a that's i i've started to leave those policies as they are and then and so that we can talk about where it would go but under under our current structure it would go it would fall first to the supervisor of special education all right thank you um so anything else from board members all right in that case we have a couple of people from the public that would like to speak um we do have to end this meeting in about six minutes anyone will call for a motion to adjourn but first name on the list is jason cook [Music] appreciate
it jason cook from greenwich um starting to get more comfortable here i appreciate the opportunity uh uh first off i'd just like to make a suggestion when you're going over and policy be nice it was up on the screen we'd appreciate that all of us went here quite very well anyway uh so i've been to quite a few of these meetings the past few weeks and something's starting to jump out at me as we discuss the equity policy and critical race theory and uh lots of things we disagree with one of the things i think that if we start moving forward we have to find some points that we can agree on um contrary to the assertion that was made in the last meeting it is not a small subset of people that are upset
about one particular item it's a large subset of people in this district multiple different options so i'm not going to take five minutes and read all of this this is model school board language prohibit critical race theory i know mr nolte uh motioned last week to ban the teaching through the lens of critical race theory that was uh there was lots of back and forth regarding we don't know what critical race theory is there is no definition for critical race theory and this is not something that we can do so what this does is policy does um i'll read the purpose the purpose of this policy is to prohibit the teaching and promotion of this divisive concepts and other forms of government sanction facilitated racism in our school district and to uphold the foundational american
principle that all people are created equal and are endowed by their creator with unalienable rights to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness um i think most of you will recognize that comes i think verbatim from the declaration of independence the last part there anyway um so it goes on to define the first the first section is definitions and again i'm not going to read all 10 items of race theory i'll give the chair um so it does there's ten different things i mean first one it says derives uh or otherwise traces its origins or influences from are permanently overlapped with critical theory social philosophy spouse teaches or promotes the social problems are created by racist or patriarchal societal structures and systems um the spouse's view that one race is inherently racist sexist or intentionally
or inadvertently oppressive like i said i won't read them all here it goes on to buy some concepts mean any concept that espouses number two here is that the united states is fundamentally or systemically racist or sexist uh it's a pretty good point i think that is being missed i think that is currently in the equity policies that we have that we are systemically racist society section two goes into into the prohibitions which again i'm not this is eight pages long i'm not gonna stand here and read this all to you i trust that there's at least enough interest amongst the school board members to try and come to some agreements to start having a little more agreeable board meetings in the future but i leave that to you folks appreciate it thank you the
other name that indicated a desire to speak the last name is wood i can't make out the first name [Music] okay my name is jed wood i am a 1996 graduate of kutztown area high school and a taxpayer in albany greenwich township and a resident of albany in greenwich township for 30 plus years but most importantly i'm a parent of four children kids that are in the elementary middle school and high school programs and i want to thank you guys for the opportunity to speak here today and i just made some observations from a few of the meetings that i was at um you know is that via zoom or um here you know in person but i just wanted to kind of bring these things to light and uh and just express them to
you guys so um give me a couple minutes so i've attended the last few board meetings doom and also in person last week and i've listened intently to the board as they discussed the policies at hand i listened just a little harder as i heard certain board members say that they're only concerned with the direction of our students and they don't care about what's going on throughout our country in the media and the progression of the rhetoric being spewed through people embracing crt systematic racism white privilege and a victim us versus them mentality their actions clearly align with the things that are happening on the national stage and i really think that it was inappropriate for them to even bring that up that uh like it's not going on so this i don't know which
was a quote from one of our board members here i don't know crt is argument is simply not acceptable to many of our parents in our community and i just want to bring that up to you guys because you know i'm not the most educated on crt or what's going on with the equity uh policies throughout the country but last few months i've been educated enough to know that uh we don't need a um we don't need a a revolution happening here at kutztown i think that uh we're a school that is filled with caring families and i think that uh that in light of these policies that that [Music] some of the families have been painted as bigots and people that are very prejudiced i i think is the furthest from the truth when
it comes to the description of some of our parents here but more importantly it's my request that the board would uh would disband the the equity team and the policy that was in place but not only would they disband it but they would um support a resolution to become kutztown united i think the verbiage of the equity team um has become so polarizing that if there's someone that is against it they want absolutely nothing to do with being associated with those words and i believe that there are some that are for it that are they're not speaking up here right now but there are some that are for it that also do not want to be associated with the uh with the uprising and the uh uh i don't know what i'm looking looking for
word here but the uh turmoil that it's caused in our community and i think that uh i think starting from scratch starting something new that uh that is well that well informs the parents the teachers and the students gets them all involved i think kutztown united is what we need that we need to move forward in unity we need to move forward with the support of not only the board but the parents as well i think that the future is bright for kutztown i think that um accountability is a huge thing i sit here and i listen to the meeting today and i understand how policies are are passed and how policies go go through the program and i know many parents are really uninformed on what's going on i mean all of us sitting
here today we really didn't know what policies that you had you know you guys were talking about today we had to we had the bullet points but that was about it we really couldn't even hear what you're saying back there because the audio is poor in the room and uh it's just it's nice to have the public meeting but for the public to be informed we really are requesting that you guys as a board would communicate to the public and make that effort communicate in the public with full transparency along with accountability if there's someone that's involved with the school a student a teacher a school board member or a team advisor that does something that's directly in opposition to uh the policies in which we already have in place to treat each other kindness
and respect i think there needs to be ability there doesn't necessarily need to be a whole new way of looking at things i think accountability is what we're looking for all right so thank you for your comments that's five minutes okay so one last thing i'm going to leave you guys with is even things that are the best intentions if you're going in the wrong direction you'll never end up at the you've intended to go so even the greatest intentions are useless without stepping in the right direction so that's that's it thank you for your time dr myers is there anyone on zoom that requested to speak all right and with that i'll look for a motion to adjourn so moved all in favor aye aye all right good night everyone good night looks like
i'm getting a thumbs up from dr meyer so why don't we call tonight's uh meeting to order this is uh facilities in extracurricular um item on the agenda is for extracurricular and we have a spring sports uh wrap-up thank you mr birch so we our third and final season for this school year certainly a unique school year hopefully a one-of-a-kind school year uh so very proud of all of our spring athletic teams uh this season and just wanted to take you through a keep up of what our teams were able to accomplish this year so we'll start off with boys volleyball our co-head coaches this year we're coach dan stemko and isaac mengele we had eight participants on the high school team they finished owen eleven which was fifth in burke's division two uh have
a note here that all the participants on this year's team were new to volleyball this season and five of those were new to high school varsity athletics overall uh so they all improved their skills uh throughout the season and their knowledge of the sport as the season progressed and it was very enjoyable to watch them grow throughout the season and we're no seniors this year so we're very hopeful that all eight players will return next year um and also be able to grow the program a little bit more with uh with some underclassmen coming up as well with the first year we ran our own i know for a while weren't we part of brandywine or did a co uh we have the co-op with girls volleyball is that girls bomb yep so boys last
year uh our team was going to be very young as well um a lot of newcomers just one senior last year and ethan sanner so that season never happened our one senior never got a chance to play last spring and so we're welcoming a bunch of new players this spring to our boys volleyball program we'll move on to our next sport boys tennis our high school coach our head is uh luanne report with assistant coaches dale report and melissa keller we had a plethora of volunteers and tia mueller lucy mouth sandy westner archie fullwiler virginia grimm and tom wendling all offering to help out this season so the boys uh very young again this year seems to be a theme with many of our spring sports uh they finished two and five in berks two
and two and eleven overall we had nine high school participants and some postseason uh qualifiers for the berks county flight tournament so in flight one singles uh we had colin peterson in flight two singles blake and flight one doubles blake nolte and otis angle and flight two doubles jacob keller and drew frederick and then flight three doubles jared noecker and grayson evner representing us uh at the uh at the flight tournament so very proud of them uh qualifying this year uh and again all underclassmen so we look to for them to come back again next week and we'll move on to uh our baseball program cool uh head coach once again tim merch with bob howard and forrest schaefer our middle school coaches this year were mike bergstrom and terry uh they finished four and
seven in berks four which was in second place and nine and twelve uh overall between participants at the high school level 20 participants at the middle school level uh and some post recognition here we uh made it a couple rounds defending our district ship so we still uh we're of the 2019 district three champions up until the the semifinal round so very proud of our voice uh going through there uh some reason honors here grant fitzgerald uh was albert's division four first team along with nick hugo matt remick and sam shafer and we had two honorable mentions in berks division four and jacob raybear and bryce shafer so again one senior in that list of uh all burke's division mentions so we look to have a good group of kids coming back next year and
uh some good talent coming up from the uh from the middle school program as well moving along to uh our softball program kevin conrad is back again as our head coach along with stacy kressly carrie burger jess romig as our assistant coaches two volunteer coaches this year at the high school level we're megan conrad and trevor greenwald our middle school coaches uh where meredith ache sheriff frederick and a volunteer coach at the middle school level was amanda hess so our girls at the high school level finished five and four in berks four which was second overall and eight and twelve in the overall regular season we had 20 participants at the high school level 12 participants at the middle school level we qualified for the berks county playoffs and were piaa district 3 3a semi-finalists
losing a very tough and close game to pequoy valley back on june 1st we have many all berks division four mentions here so for the berks division iv first team we have brianna stauffer brittany noecker megan dietrich keaton lubach joanna hurlin and marissa berger and we have three berks division four honorable mentions in michaela dre sammy first and riley boning so again uh brianna stopper is our only senior in that group of honors there so again this team is very young and we look for some good things for them moving on into into next spring our final athletic team this spring is the track and field program uh kelly neihart coach along with larry chester uh mick de benedetto michael abbahuda austin corey as our assistant coaches volunteer coaches of michael hill kay schwamm and
xavier feliciano our two middle school coaches this year were anson weidner and shelby brett the boys regular season we finished two and two three and two and four overall uh at the high school level 24 kutztown boys and 10 brandywine boys so this year uh at the high school level there was no co-op so kutztown and brandywine competed separately as teams but still were able to train together and travel together to meets uh 74 boys for kutztown 10 for brandywine at the middle school level we had 16 boys for kutztown and 5 for brandywine for the girls regular season they were also two and two in burke strategy and three and three overall we had 27 kutztown girls and 14 brandywine girls participating and at the middle school level we had 10 kutztown girls and
seven brandywine girls participating uh some uh berks county post season recognition mitchell brett was all berks division three in the 800 meter and 1600 meters jack cornbeam uh all berks division 300 miles schmidt uh honorable mention divisions arena vault the girls 400 meter relay was also division three uh with that included tara herring taylor conroy elizabeth schwartz and erica moriarty abby reasoner was all berks division three in the javelin elizabeth schwartz was also three i will mention the 100 meters taylor conroy uh also honorable mention in the 100 meters and two more honorable mentions for our 4 by 100 meter relay which included taylor conroy helena hoffman abby reasoner and elizabeth schwartz and the girls 4 by 800 meter relay uh which included arnold lilly aspin tara herring and erica moriarty at the uh firing
meet which is the berks county champions championships we had 19 medal winning performances uh which included wards who won three and mitchell brett erica moriarty taylor conroy and tara herring each one too uh abby the silver medal in the javelin and we had 21 athletes move on to the district 3 championships at shippensburg and so some of the highlights from the district three championship meet uh mitchell brett finished second in the 1600 meters jack cornfield finished seventh in the 3200 and miles schmidt finished fourth in the pole vault for our girls we had sophia sophia arnold finished third in the four by 800 meter relay along with lily asplund uh also third on par as far as that relay team taylor conroy uh finished fourth in the 100 meters sixth as part of the four
by 100 meter relay and fourth as part of the four by four hundred meter relay tara herring uh finished third as part of the four by eight hundred meter relay and fourth as part of the four by four hundred meter relay elena hoffman sixth as a member of the four by one erica moriarty finished third as a member of the 4x800 meter relay and fourth as a member of 4x400 abbey reasoner finished second in the javelin at the district 3 championships and 6th as a member of the 4x1 and elizabeth schwartz finished second in the 100 meters fourth as a member of the four by four hundred meter relay and sixth as a member of the four by one hundred meter relay and moving on from that group to the pia state championships was abby
riesner who placed 13th in the javelin elizabeth schwartz who placed 14th in 100 meters and mitchell brett who is our first kutztown track athlete to meddle in the state championship since 2011. he finished eight and received the medal in the 1600 meters at the state championships on memorial day weekend then our final slide is just the cost comparison for all of our spring sports so you can see the total expenditures the number of athletes that we have throughout the program that includes both at the middle school and high school level for those programs that include middle school and high school programs and then a breakdown of the cost per athlete and then the final sell at the bottom uh that is the total expense with the coaching stipends removed from that um and you can
see where that comes out to a difference between the two between the coaching stipends and non-coaching stipend number there uh caveat to this is that these numbers only include the transportation costs up until april 15th still waiting for those invoices from eshelman from the second half of the spring season as sports thank you uh mr yapsuka and just uh congratulations to all our student athletes just a very good year by them and dealing with the pandemic and everything else so just to our student athletes they did a great job this year um sorry just a clarifying question i i was a little confused about uh track and field yeah so we had kutztown and brandywine numbers in there but you said we don't co-op correct so this year uh is the first year at the
high school level that we are not an official co-op so kutztown is kutztown brandywine kids completed brandywine the middle school co-op still does exist uh so the middle school track athletes from brandywine they come over and they're still part of the kutztown team so the reasoning behind the high school was that as part when we had the co-op in place that elevated the numbers up to aaa and so now that kutztown and brandywine are competing separately that put us into the double a for for the postseason for district three and the state championship because they still practice with us it's still all the same events it's just not an official co-op for competitiveness i was gonna ask like did they share our coaching and everything like they don't bring their coaches do they they had
uh uh joe stess who was one of our assistant football coaches he uh hired by brandywine as the brandywine head track coach so he was here every day and they had a volunteer coach along for brandywine as well who was here uh for many of the days as well so joe stes was the uh was the head coach for the brandywine team and represented uh for anyone at all the meets that they were at okay yeah thank you appreciate that do we they they all go to they both both groups go to the same meet at the same point in time so that there's like a two or three team meet usually or yes yep so that we got the high school level yep so controlled transportation and some of those issues right uh so
we uh um so we did provide trent we did uh take care of the transportation for the brandywine athletes uh we used a combination of two buses and then a bus in a band depending if it was an invitational or or a dual meet uh because of this year with uh with two schools involved uh we tried to keep all kutztown kids on one bus all brandywine kids on another bus and did a workout pretty well this year again ed for that update next item is the tennis court uh renovations putting up another slideshow here so we have two proposals right now one from the brennaman company who's been doing uh several of the uh error items and power washing for us over the past several years here in the sports and also one from
miller sports construction uh who came in during their walkthroughs and also provided us a quote uh so in the pictures that i've provided in the slideshow i just want to start with talking about you know we as we go through all of our facilities you know we've we've done some upgrades and do constant upkeep of the basketball courts you know football field we've taken care of over the recent years um you heard it i think i've said this before we heard it senior night or senior awards for athletic a field hockey coach talking about how the fields are how much better the fields are now that we've we've taken care of them you know you just keep looking around and then that's one process and the second process we're beautifying parts of the back of
the high school where you have the stadium you know and then uh we're putting up a transportation as you start walking around the back of the high school you see the tennis courts and you know if you kind of look they're they're in disrepair at times i mean just visually so it is it is to consider those things so we've received a few votes for what it would cost to upgrade the courts a little background on that thank you so you get the most up-to-date pictures uh these are from uh this weekend i came up here onto the courts and uh um kind of took uh took a few pictures of several of the the trouble areas up there uh they said we have uh coach dale reporter up here who's basically lived on these
courts for the past several years and uh um certainly knows them inside and out so these are these are these first round of pictures are from our upper ear uh you can see where the uh the top the top layer of coding is uh has already uh begun the process of peeling way there and that's only going to get worse um that's back in the corner but certainly that and eventually make its way uh down to the playing surface as we go through the pictures here we'll see that there are many many areas within the playing surface that are certainly in need of some dire attention uh so these are obviously these are lines on the court certain blue area is where the official playing area is you can see where areas of cracking along
the core right along the lines if we go to the next slide here uh that yellow area that's again on the upper quartz uh that's where that that layer is peeling away that my hand right there and you can just easily just pick that up and certainly once kids begin getting on that and keep peeling away uh certainly that's going to be more exposed and try to have a very slippery very dangerous situation up there for kids to play on and certainly not really anything great to look at so a lot of cracking uh next area here again these are the upper courts the upper courts are the two that are certainly uh the worst out of all five of them this is an area where it really has been the uh the focus of
the power washing over the past couple of years um from what i was able to gather the brennaman company did the bottom three courts i believe it was in 2012 or 2013 and then there was a separate company that did the top two courts here and there's what's called kind of birdbath areas which is somebody's darker images will be where it just kind of caves in just a little bit but that's an area that tends to hold moisture and when you get um you know anything from the vegetation around the area it just kind of adheres to that and you get that sort of surface right there and even though we do power we have power washed them for the past two years you can see how quickly this builds up so last summer we
did have a power washing and it improved it uh pretty pretty good and then this is just the course of really less than a year of how this has come back if we go to the next pictures here this is just again more pictures of some of those dark areas you see the the blue one there that's right at the playing surface right at the net where you can see there's areas of it starting to peel up there so again that will just again just more areas right by the net so you can see it really is kind of right in the playing surface there where we're getting areas of the surface just as we go on to the next one it takes us down to the lower ports there we go so you can
see where uh areas here where brennaman company has come in and that's done some repairs to them um again those repairs are within the last year or two and we're again getting uh getting some cracking there um you know going along the line back to the fencing there we go on to the next slide and it's just uh that one on the right hand side and that's just a nice gash right in the middle of the playing surface cracking right along the line so on to the next slide here this is again up by the net this is kind of a continuation of right of the same area you can see how long that crack extends right along the net and then again on to the next slide uh it's extending from court to court
and again you see how our playing surfaces are are pretty compromised here and um without some attention these kind of these uh these areas are just going to continue to increase and give them some more disrepair and as we go through yep those are the last two pictures here that i have to present for the task force 46 kisses [Music] so um in fact i was on years ago when pastor ritter and i run probably from maybe together six years out of the ten maybe something like that the tennis courts to put it in all practicality or shop they're done so we're trying to rebuild the tennis program here at kutztown my wife and i took over as official coaches five six years ago and at the time we came in we said the two
upper courts whoever had done them should have been sued because they didn't do them properly now they've completely fallen apart bottom courts need doing as well but if you're going to do it correctly you probably should also do defensive because the fencing has separated from the tennis court itself and the fencing has to be i'm guessing the fencing was put in in the 60s probably 60s or 70s but if nothing else the surface of the court needs to be done we're trying to build the tennis program back up two years ago we had the first county finalist from kutztown in 37 years and he missed states by two points so we're doing a good job building the program we have a middle states usta tournament actually memorial day on these courts and it rains we
had to go down into redding for two days to happen we had players here from pittsburgh from new jersey all over some of the top players in the country came and i can tell you the usta would not have allowed us to play on those upper two courts um that's how bad we think they are and when we do have some of the away teams coming you're like why are missing some of the teams they question playing on the four and five chords particularly the five chord because of the all the dirt that's on the indentations on it they're so slippery you can't really play on them somebody's going to get injured severely the bottom three chords the lines themselves they didn't fill properly when a ball bounces on the line it actually dies it
doesn't come up it's dead it doesn't come up at all so they need complete refilling any complete redoing not because i'm the tennis coach because i don't want to see kids get hurt pretty much we didn't have anything of course because it covered the year before in our summer program we had 64 kids so we're hoping to get there again we're trying to build a big tennis program here and we see kids out on the court all the time we thank you again for the two thousand dollar donation you made to our hitting wall where the the only school district in the county that has a six thousand dollar professional tennis hitting wall hitting board on court five we raised four thousand dollars on our own the school board gave us two thousand we have
the best hitting board in the county of berks bar none it's fantastic and that half of the court's really nice it's the support on the other side that's very dilapidated broken down if you have any questions i'd be glad to answer them because i'm on there an awful lot we got rained out tonight and i'm 5-10 minutes late because of the rain and things it's like corralling cats when you've got kids from 11 and age on up to 18 it's like they're all over the place and we also started programming kempton for 10 and under we have 34 kids signed up for that already so tennis is going to be growing here in the community quite heavily and the parents are looking at the courts and they're concerned too as to you know how they
look how do they prepare it takes us every time it rains if we have a match it literally takes us by hand one and a half to two hours to dry those quartz off with squeegees if we hadn't finished we could do that in 10 minutes but they have pockets of water everywhere and to do that you have to press the water you have to push it through you have to move it around you have to spread it and god forbid if the sun's not out you'll never get them dry enough you know you'll be able to have a match so this is the first year as two coaches we haven't sent someone to districts we've done it every year we've been here because it covered we had a complete team that nobody played a
match this year as a boys tenant just one player that played a matches here it was tough but the kids got a lot better by the end of the season we were competing pretty well so and i know money's tight i've been on school board 10 years i understand all of that and there's a lot of important things but you know we did a great job with the stadium and the basketball court and everything else we just thought you know maybe it's time for the tennis court i probably could have raised money through the usta we have a good relationship with them but they have cut out all court funding they would help pay for things over certain periods of time but they've cut out all funding because they can't have full attendance at the
usta and they make 185 million it's the biggest sporting event in the world in terms of revenue and they have been able to do that so they've cut back substantially with everything so any questions well i think it was the association that gave us some grant money several years before when we did the two courts well we we were able to raise money through our association our i'm the director of the yes eastern berkshire south tennis association right and we were able to get tennis into each of the schools with rackets we got fifteen hundred dollars worth of free tennis rackets and all the schools middle school the high school and all the elementary schools now i'm talking about when we did there were repairs done where two at least two of the courts or
maybe more were redone well i think that's that's like the court four and five were redone right days are long but years are short eight or nine years ago right they were it's been quite a few quite a bit of time i think it was about 2017 or 2014 when that happened so i thought that was brennaman they didn't do the two upper courts someone else in coopersburg i believe we weren't here at the time as coaches and chris i don't remember his last name was the athletic director and when we took over his coaches we told him to take to the school board that that contractor should have been sued because they did them improperly completely in our opinion was was that brennaman or is that someone else who did that work that was
someone else who did the upper two courts brennaman did the bottom three okay yeah if if the court's redone how long should it expect to last oh eight years yeah maybe longer depend there's always been a problem with these courts because when they were built they were built up and they were built with fill-in materials so over the years it settled somewhat so they've been done redone a few times but those two look much better than the bottom three courts and they did not because they weren't done properly and that wasn't ned's fault or anyone on the board it was whoever did them back in 2014 or whatever so you second quoted i don't know if i have this is that a second quote to redo the courts or is that a second quote for
something else yeah i don't think i have that i saw the friend of it not the miller one side so i did not see the other quotes either i don't know a whole lot about tennis what are the courts typically made out of is it just like asphalt material and then some kind of filler on top as well okay right is [Music] if if we would do the surfaces that could wait till the future year it could sooner or later right they're rusty and everything else but you have to take make sure that the rubber just supports this time it takes the surface it fills in the area and the fence because at the end there's wood blocks and it's falling apart and it's a do we know why there's such a disparity with redoing
the fence when you look at the pro max estimate which was 27.9 and miller the it says alternate one fence system and that one's over 83 000. that just seems like a huge difference just on the pro max it looks like something they have someone working there by the name of mike birch just in case anyone is wondering no relation don't know where christian just emailed a couple quotes to us uh carl so uh there's a pro max fence systems uh estimate here for total cost of twenty seven thousand nine hundred seventy dollars for defense i apologize then if i understand uh mr correctly there's another person that might be in yet another entity okay um don't do the fencing however that's why we'd have to get another bid on the fencing is that i
don't know because there's nothing in their proposal about it i didn't see it yes yeah they didn't they don't have anything in the fencing here i don't think that was ever part of our conversation with brennaman that's something i can reach out to them and see what they could do as far as the quote well i mean it would be a good i it seems to me to make sense if we're having one company and they can do everything to have that rather than pay for extra setup and coordination and all that comes when you have multiple contractors working on the same project no that i understand that but it but at least you know may seem to me to make sense if that would probably go with the same company within reasons it could
be so should i look at pro max's quote or status is existing fence reinstall existing bottom run re-tie existing fence where needed and then it says tennis court furnish and install what's what's existing fence versus tennis courts so you've used promax you're just pro max okay i mean i would like to see the other quote before we would make a decision on what we're going to do i don't know if anyone else has any other questions or any other requests for information i'm just curious i can only see the miller one because it's the only one i have right here but it just talks about court renovation and specifically about crack repair but with that fixed thank you would that fix the existing issue the fact that the courts aren't level so we still have
these like sections in the court that are going to be low sections where we're going to have standing water or does the renovation include raising areas for the brennaman quote uh they're pretty detailed they do have they do have in there the court will be flooded in any low areas the birdbath areas holding one eighth inch or more water after one hour of drying time to 70 degrees acrylic patch binder the leveling material that they would put in there [Music] you don't think he will yes and then i guess with the cost i mean is there money in the budget for this well there is no budget in the capital projects fund but i did send you a listing of how much money is still left in you know a bank account that was that
was the number at the bottom dave pardon that was the number at the bottom of the correct yes can you tell us what that was again that mean 400 something yeah it was over 400 000 i don't remember the expected that's still in the account yes we're spending some of that though yet on our other bro or no we got the bond for that the bond is that's all separate from there and we're not using any of that money for any of the other projects that we didn't put under the bond um i don't have the asbestos remediation oh that's right that's that's gonna go in there right but all the other renovations so i guess my question would be timing wise if we decided as a board to move forward with this it's now
the june 15th meeting we meet one more time then we don't meet until the middle of july right when does tennis practice start in the fall yeah i understand but actually [Music] not something that a coach wants to hear but uh you know with other school districts in the middle of uh athletic renovations or projects uh there's also the possibility of playing all the late matches but certainly nothing that coach wants to well i don't think we have to get to that point right because if we make a decision or we move forward possible to be done um before a season starts person versus certainly lasting into the fall for an extended period of time right so i guess i i would uh having having seen the courts up close um they certainly are not
going to get any better on their own um so i i certainly am in favor of of uh my my recommendation would be that we would we would we would recommend to the board the brennaman quote with the exception of if if a quote comes in from this other person that's that's less expensive or different that you guys could evaluate that we would recommend that that quote so i will be in favor of that proposal um from a court standpoint so that would oh yeah i'll second that okay and then what what about the fence well my i'm just a little i seem a little baffled at the fence that it doesn't seem like it's apples to apples i don't know 26 000 versus 83 000. i think the 83 000 is inclusive of the
court renovation yeah a court renovation oh you think that's a total i think yeah i think i think oh okay i thought it was e but it's still 41 000 more right then at least that gets it closer it's electrified actually i i think if my sentence seconded carl's motion um that we get the courts done that's the immediate thing and if we need to wait a bit of time for the fencing we let's do that but make sure we get the ports refinished so that that safety aspect will be cared for yeah i'm wondering if the defense is so high just with the overall cost of goods right now material if we can delay that a year it might be better priced if there's any damage okay the miller quote is just for three
of the courts the 42 7. but what i like about the miller quote was it doesn't have a lot of detail there no it's hard to figure out what exactly they would do as compared to brennaman because of that but the brennaman we have two separate quotes for all five courts so is miller only quoting for three of the courts or which are they only doing partial repairs to some of the courts and then doing the uh acrylic uh application for three or four or don't we know what that estimate represents now this is for uh this were all five quarts uh so the the three the three coat acrylic color system so they'll apply three coats to each of the five quarts okay so if they're doing all five as well then that estimates
for 42.7 if you add up the two brennaman quotes that would be then uh 47 47 [Music] 5 yeah i agree but when i look at the miller quote they don't put another filling the other detail appeared to be dealing with the bird baths and some sanding and doing a series a whole other amount of work where it looks like the miller is just filling the cracks and recoding whereas i think i think brennaman is everybody kind of read it in detail they're they're providing more kind of fixing the base yeah they're leveling the surface a lot better okay okay and also included with that with the bremen is what coach dale had mentioned about growing the program they also include installing tenant on the play lines for youth tennis as well on the courts
so we can have the younger kids in there also on some of the uh the mines for i mean they've even gone to the detail of saying they're 12 low areas that they put the patch compound in so they they really have done a job here and given us a clear picture of what they're going to do so you and then you were saying hold off and get clarification on the fencing before we would make a decision with that well no actually now that it was explained to me as not being 83 000 i feel a little better i i thought i thought the quote was for 83 i read it as the quote was 83 000 for just the fence yeah that's how it it looks to read anyway yeah i thought that as
well expense was what it's like 26 that's where it was pretty [Music] i'm sure a little bit more uh actually one thing that bill okay so we have a motion in the second for the brennaman quote uh so why don't we call that the question and we could do a show of hands for uh for the uh now let's uh go back to the fence then real quick do we want to get more information on these quotes for the fencing or is anyone comfortable enough to make a recommendation and emotion with respect for the fancy cause we have pro max and then we have this that may not be exactly clear what the quote really is i i think if we've used since we've used pro max for the stadium and that seems to be
what's well done and we're having them potentially come back to do some work on the bottom rail uh i'm going to make a motion and we can talk further about it to go ahead with the promax fence systems yeah do we have a second for that for dr ritter's motion i'll second that does is promax a co-stars vendor we would they would have to be a pro max i mean uh co-stars what's the value dave again or it requires bidding it's like right around 21 000. pending that being checked out i still make the motion and then that could be checked out afterwards so we're ready to have it on the board agenda clears because because otherwise it would have to go out the bid yes so we're still in a worst case of where
we should still be in a worst case of 26.4 right if we go out to bid and somebody comes in lower we're at a worse case of 26 400. so i'd suck and that's uh subject to them uh being pro stars or lowest bid right the certain thresholds for the cost of the repair or the service so is that is it clear everyone the motion is in the second at this point uh with that being the case uh do a show of hands as to whether we're in favor of that anyone opposed looks like that's uh caring so that we can take care of that i mean that's obvious this is obviously a worthwhile investment for the district uh so just uh thanks to uh coach repper for all he does for the program and
we really appreciate what you do for the kids and everything thank you can i ask one thing that the the light posts that are there are you gonna raise okay yeah perfect because we're going to do and you're going to have a nice set up for a court nice fence and then those light posts were they think they're pretty rough so yeah good great okay but no that that's awesome richard they certainly need to be done thank you thank you coach so that concludes what i had on the agenda for extracurricular was there anything that got added on in the meat time or is that uh finished up then no well done very good thanks a lot mr gabzooka thank you for to the facility signing uh first item is sidewalk recommendations and i'm assuming
this is a follow-up to um some of the sidewalk maintenance that was uh discussed at the last meeting correct so what we had done and after that uh entire district scope we went back and looked at exactly what was used based on life skills and we have recommended that we take a long constitution from the top of the middle school down through the high school ending at the elementary school at the alley and that cost is seven thousand eight hundred and fifty five dollars for that uh the ada replacement for the you know the the grinding of the area and repair but i thought there was a large it was a there was an area that pretty much covered all around the uh the sidewalks all around the schools that was more of the question
previous the previous report included all schools all sidewalks every everything that was a quarter of an inch so when looking at it to pair it down to prioritize it prioritize the long constitution disabilities not traveling between schools some but even some of their [Music] so was it still remind me just a couple weeks ago now we are still looking at a quarter of an inch or did we raise that still a quarter of an inch long constitution but that's that for that portion it's still a quarter inch again basically all substitution so the 7008 our figure would represent everything that we would need to do to repair and get our sidewalks up to where they need to be a long constitution from the middle school down to the elementary school entrance again that is the
area that we've been kind of focused on based on the discussions we've had with the life skills teachers and coaches do we have that updated quote for the okay [Music] does anyone have any uh questions uh with regard to the revised number for the sidewalk repairs and i did get another company or at least contacted another company senator appointment that they never came out to look at it so we're looking for a motion rainey to yep and mr hess has the uh revised uh estimate that's being passed around if anyone wants to look at that but uh yes we would be looking for a motion to approve those uh sidewalk repairs for that new figure of approximately seven thousand eight hundred dollars i'll make the motion to to uh make those sidewalk repair on this
quote middle school and high school selected a total of seven thousand eight hundred and fifty five dollars and uh with that uh motion do we have a second can i ask a question that's a question it's all right um coming down from the middle school are you saying that the sidewalk repairs stop at the the end of the sidewalk or do they wrap into the high school sidewalks all the way into the high school and then then further down strictly just on a long just a constitution okay that you know that area of the high school is in pretty good shape that's probably the newest sidewalk so why was the high school quote so much higher than the middle school quote because it seems like the middle school has the longest piece of sidewalk unless
there's more repairs that are needed out here the high school sidewalk seems fairly small the i mean uh if you look at the uh from the high school going to the elementary school there's much larger you know older older side any other questions before we do a show of hands um hearing none let's do a show of hands for whether there's approval for the sidewalk and it doesn't look like there would be anyone uh opposed so that would carry and the last item on the agenda is our new storage and uh there was an attachment which looked to be a uh a rendering of what type of repairs or what we would do to fix uh the music storage uh at the height and this is at the high school correct yeah if you recall
back to our conversations with mcclure in the project they had come back with a don't quote me on if it was 126 000 approximately give or take um to redo the storage in that band hallway and kind of all the time felt that was as far as a quote so that was left out of the project and this was a quote that was that came subsequently right we just took we still went with uh cmi and they came back with uh a quote of 79 000 if we would have done the demolition at the same time uh the problem uh this was one of the first things that we found out that we could not get these in time even if we had ordered them last month before october and probably going into november now
so that was just that now what that does not include is any painting or flooring in that area as well which i think we could probably go over the flooring in that area there's potential for that or if not we're going to have to do a asbestos abatement in that hallway which actually uh i was getting some quotes uh from that which i don't have one one of the suggestions i made when we were talking about the larger project was possibly contacting um bctc and seeing if their student under program could work on this project we we did that or we didn't i did not i mean again i'm going to speak a little i believe this is a little bit above their scope of what they could get handled in you know with this
if you can see the rendering of what it is i mean they build houses so i'm just saying they did that as their primary curricular project though they devote a lot of the research resources there i do believe this is a little outside of what this i see the spec drawing but i did not see the actual quote no i didn't either yeah it's just a drawing so i'm not sure where the 79 i don't have that it was just the specs we got or i have anyone that's what i have you said before was 120 was the number we had about 127 000 from mcclure it was that email that was sent from rick angle so rick engel just sent an email if you have any questions 79 000 demo let me do the
rest turn key project shipping install demo which will be under co-stars if you ordered today you're looking at 12 weeks so that's all what exactly does that cover then it covers the well it would have been if we were able to do with the demo from um the existing project and then it would have covered the complete installation um going over the flooring correct correct yeah but it does not include flooring it just would talk about going that yeah the actually if we talked we could go over flooring which i don't have uh but i have a quote for uh up as abatement in that particular room for six thousand two hundred and ten dollars if we would choose to go that route that does not include new flooring over top of that you know
in addition to plus any painting that we would do in that in that room i believe we could handle some of the demolition in particular case if we were going to do that so mr miller the the balance you provided us is just the money we have in that account for this year correct we have fund balance money for capital projects beyond that or not no that's that's that is the balance in the construction account that's the dollar funds for next year this is as of now but with the new if with the passing of the new budget there will be additional dollars going into this yeah there will be another 230 000 july 1 past budget there'll be an additional 000 that go into there correct okay [Music] now it says the cabinets are
wood what exactly is the appearance or the makeup of the cap does when it's is it this is wood is it solid wood is it some kind of press board is it something else i have not actually seen the uh besides in photos so wenger it's what uh the dustin shirt the band teacher had uh recommended for us to go through also the sizes all the unique side or being for the instruments that they have i can forward you uh a link to that page or the uh better picture but i have not actually seen or touched one of these cabinets i just forwarded an email with a second document and it describes them wall panels are three quarter inch thick industrial grade composite wood with no added formaldehyde or polyester laminate finish and wenger
standard doors patented shelves are blow molded polyethylene mounted with self-locks shell supports mr miller how much was the cost again for the asbestos remediation i'm just trying to get an estimate of what's left in the fund in this account if you take out the asbestos remediation you take out the tennis courts i'm just trying to understand what's i don't have the number in front of me i'm thinking 70 thousands does that sound right mr robinson yes uh from through mcclure it was 75 and change and then we have an additional eight thousand dollars roughly and we can bring that down for uh air monitoring during that so if we from the number we were presented tonight if the we moved forward with the tennis courts we moved forward with the remediation before we would make
any decision on storage i'm counting about 280 000 in that account sounds right and another 230 goes in from fund balance next year on july 1st correct now with the cost of the is this something that would need to be a bit at this point or could we approve this if we wanted to at this time i can lob as a co-stars so we can go direct okay and i'm not sure the time you know again as i said this will not be in by august of when school starts so i think it's something that we maybe need to discuss just a little bit further as far as uh looking for timing of when we do maybe we do look at christmas break if there's potential there that we can do an install there so
again revisiting this with eigenlab will be here next week or through emails so with that being the case is there some more information or other questions uh from the committee that you would like to have addressed when this comes back yeah i just would like to see the product if we could at least get like an image from like that wenger company to see what it looks like or if they actually have a physical product that we could see it'd be nice to see what the cabinets are going to be made out of to randy's point if it's like composite wood um i just would like to see my concern with composite materials sometimes they don't hold up very well i like to know we have a quality a quality purchase any other questions or
more information that any committee member would like to say we're looking for information if they'll give us a demo of the shelf and then we've got to look at timeline and when it could actually be done because when's the next time we meet as a committee with the summer winding down do we august yeah so is that okay timing-wise then uh richard yeah that's that's fine okay i can send out emails uh in the meantime if i uh get any other additional information did we even use the cabinets this year were they allowed to store anything in there this past year for not using the cabinets all year i mean there's stuff in there but that would describe it as stuff okay because it's you know the cabinets are nothing no but they were not
using them as they traditionally would because i mean i still hear from my daughter regarding the music room and certain areas in the high school with respect to the condition of the music room uh molding issues and things of that nature again understand you're dealing with teenagers that may not really know how to recognize those things or properly diagnose them uh you know i still hear uh rumblings about the condition of the music room but in august maybe mr burks before the i think we might be back in the high school for a meeting we could always walk through yeah yeah that area because i mean those the storage area does need to be uh cleaned up and revamped i mean there's there's no question about that but uh we're gonna do we might as
well make sure we hopefully do a good job with it and it's something that'll last for many years for the students anything else with respect to the music storage and was there anything else that was added onto the agenda that i did not see no but if i could just circle back tennis courts uh one item that i think is uh unfortunately right there is the tree the large oak tree that kind of hovers over half of the tennis court does not do it any favors from the debris that it brings down you know as far as all the leaf litter and other things that kind of fall down on that one corner of the court so i know that's it's always tough on that but uh maybe we'll try to improve uh our cleaning
procedure you know of that and potentially help that but that's a lot of a lot of the black area that's on that one corner of the tennis court i'm sure we don't want to cut that tree is it right is that tree at the entrance to the stadium or which is there another no it's directly over top of the greenhouse it shades the greenhouse is there a way to trim the tree so it doesn't interfere with the tennis courts without actually removing it i'm sure we can trim it back a little bit and that's just we do have a tree trimmer coming out uh very soon here at the high school and we could take a look at that as well but i just want to mention that something that needs to be addressed as
well right well but timing wise we probably want to take care of the tree before anything is done to the courts they're scheduled to come out and look at some items next week i'm assuming the tree was removed that would be quite an expense as far as that that's going to be a pretty it's a very sizable sizable treat a tree over a greenhouse to feed the purpose of a greenhouse well sometimes you want shading in a greenhouse okay could could you get though just for did you get a price on removing the tree absolutely it wouldn't maybe we could make our money back by selling the wood so be like no net loss there because again if the tree is gonna continue to cause damage it's not like it's aesthetically i mean i treat
pokemon but it's it's not like it's in the front of the school it's in the back tucked where yeah if it causes more damage than it's worth yeah i mean if it's worth our while to take it down i think we should because why leave it up and it'll damage the new ports uh our last meeting mr hess was asking for an update uh on how the construction was going i just did a brief little quick rundown the chillers for the three buildings two of the three chillers are in stock and ready to be delivered they're actually on site uh shipper and the third one will be built uh by july 19th we're being told uh hvac they're starting to remove a lot of the existing units now throughout greenwich and the high school since
the high school is you know in the shop area so they've been working all out this building was today starting uh removing and then kutztown elementary looking at the week of july 19th for everything roofing again started here last week and greenwich and then again kutztown elementary july 19th paving kutztown middle school will be around back what we're doing is uh june 21st greenwich the entire lot will be august 2nd and then the high school uh august 2nd as well to do both of those simultaneously facility building is looking at for july 19th to start excavation of that the elevator here at the middle school is june 21st and then the auditorium the demolition was all last week and all the seats are removed now uh they start running this morning once they got all
the equipment in uh they're gonna continue to paint up until the asbestos abatement which will commence on june 28th electrical is scheduled for july 26th the floor install is the week of august 8th and then the seat install will be august 23rd uh the reason why that is again the one delay out of the entire project is the seat is coming out of foam is coming out of texas and we were told right when we ordered these that there was a backup with some type of problem with the seat phone so that's about the only thing we've been told that's been on delay everything else is already procured most of the roofing is already on the roofs at all the existing buildings and that's the the rubber the insulation and the glue again the curbings
new curvings for all the hvac equipment is on the on the ground at all the buildings so we're kind of making headway just if the weather would cooperate a little bit so anybody any other questions thank you i was just curious if um we gave any thought to having some kind of grand opening to the auditorium after it's been renovated i don't know if that's that's a thought that we were having because it's going to look pretty different i would imagine so yeah we haven't really discussed that but as we see it develop i'm sure it makes a lot of sense we see that timeline it'll be it'd be nice to go in there and see it so it looks like we we may be installing this we'll know when school starts exactly he may
still be installing some of the auditorium during school possibly it's looking that way so once the flooring is in uh eichenlof said mark out the flooring or the holes for the seating so once the seats do arrive they strictly you know screw them down to the ground uh you know they're they said that's what they've been pretty successful at pre-drilling everything so but again it's on hold from the manufacturer on the pad sounds like things are moving uh along nicely with that uh which is a very encouraging news um is there anyone online at this point uh dr all right and it myers look like we have any uh public with us at this moment so with that uh being the case i'd be looking for a motion to adjourn for the night so moved
in all in favor raise your hands thank you everybody that concludes thanks
