All those in favor say I. I. Opposed? All right. Recognition, um there's none listed. Uh we don't have our high school representative here, no presentation. Superintendent report. This is Don Co, good evening. I'd like to congratulate

the cast, crew, and everyone who worked on The Drowsy Chaperone. It was an impressive production showcasing the very best of Sauk Valley, and it's a testament to the talent and dedication of everyone who was involved. So, thank you to the community for supporting our students and staff as well. Prom is this Friday. I would like to wish everyone an enjoyable and safe evening. Our activities director, Mr. Johnson, did share information in his recent newsletter, but I'd like to highlight a few key points. As a school-sponsored event, all rules remain in effect. There'll be a security procedure in place, including restrictions on bags and item checks upon entry. Prom is an important milestone at the high school, and our goal is to make sure that it's carried out safely so everyone have a great time on

Friday. I'd like to acknowledge the I use recognition of our alumni associations wall of fame initiative that highlights standout Sauk and Prairie alumni. The award ceremony for this is next week and our national merit scholar Alexander Borowski will also be recognized for his distinguished academic achievements. And finally, I'm thrilled to announce that the district was recognized for the third consecutive year as one of the best communities for music education by the NAMM Foundation and this award recognizes our support and commitment to music education which is an integral part of our Sauk and Prairie educational experience and that concludes the report this evening. Thank you. Thanks very much. Courtesy of the floor to visitors. Got it. Uh presentations of the bill the bills uh do I have a motion to approve the bill? >> So moved.

Second. All those in favor say I. I. Opposed? Motion passes. Treasurers report, do I have a motion to approve the treasurers report? So moved. Any discussion? All right, all those in favor say I. I. Opposed? All right. Passes. Uh committee reports, we actually have no reports this um this evening as facilities just happened so we don't have a report yet on that. I have no un- unfinished business. I don't have a recent uh agenda. That's correct, we have no unfinished business. Okay. Um education uh we have University um of Wisconsin-Stout master affiliation agreement and this is regarding um a student teacher, correct? Perkins Act. These are the affiliation affiliation agreements that come to us um when we are taking on students from certain universities. This is a two-year agreement. Okay. So moved. Second. Any discussion?

All those in favor, say I. I. Opposed? Uh onto personnel, um we have a resignation of an administrative assistant, um two of them, I'm sorry. Resignation of a middle school administrative assistant effective April 17th, and the resignation of a high school administrative assistant effective May 7th. And an unproved I'm sorry. Approve an unpaid leave for Brenda um from April 8th to May 11th. Would anybody like any of those pulled off of that list? All right. Do I have a motion to approve these personnel issues? So moved. All those in favor, say I. I. Opposed? Motion passes. All right. Um facilities, there's no agenda items. Finance, we have the budget timeline. Dave, do you want to update us on the budget timeline, which is coming soon? Uh yes, we will have to make a presentation or

the preliminary budget as of May 12th in order to meet the deadline or we would have to do a uh special meeting to meet it. It has to be on display for 30 days. So, 20 days it's on display and then the last 10 days it gets converted into the final budget. Okay. May I? So, this is here here it says May 31st. Uh what is May 31st and what what's May 12th? >> Well, May 12th to meet with our timeline for our board dates. So, that's why I'm saying May 12th to meet the timeline. So, if we want to have a special meeting, so the 31st is yes, you have till the end of June to adopt the final budget. So, what why can't we do May 26th? Cuz the board meeting our dates

don't match. You'd have to have a special meeting. For the final a- For the final adoption. Okay. Thanks. All right. Any other questions? Discussion? All right. Community updates? Um Allentown Lower Saucon Chamber of Commerce? Director Santos? Yes. Excuse me. We have um a quick update on the uh Chamber of Commerce uh really aesthetic if you will. There is a music in the parks that will be in Dimmick Park on May 17th, June 14th, July 19th, and August 23rd. Uh we are greatly and heavily emphasized to attend. Uh those should be rather fun. There will be bands, music, food, entertainment of all sorts uh including a band called The Weekenders, which I hear is very good. As well as uh an event by the Southern Lehigh Concert Series in Hopewell Park, June 5th, June 19th, and

June 26th. Um June 19th, The Weekenders will also be there. So, June uh The Weekenders are premiering a lot around the the area. Hopefully we can attend. Uh there is also, if I recall correctly, a request to advertise uh some of these events on our website in order to gain more traffic. And so, I will be speaking with hopefully uh our uh communications director as well as uh the yourself uh in order to get this onto the website and see if we can advertise some of these events. Yeah, there is a process, I believe, to get that on the website, right? Flyers and those kind of things. If I recall correctly. Yeah. Okay. Thank you so much. Thank you. Uh foundation? All right, thank you. Uh community college, Ms. Baxter isn't here. Bethlehem Area Vo-Tech,

Cedric, do you have anything to report? >> Um we haven't had a recent meeting. Our next meeting is next week. Okay. Um Colonial Intermediate Unit, Dr. Packer? No. Um this the last meeting was last Wednesday. Uh as I had said before, I had uh submitted my uh resignation uh to be a member of that board to uh uh to the IU and they acted on it uh time and uh the effective date would be, I think, the next uh IU board meeting because they need still sort of like someone from the uh from from our district to be on on the board in case something happens. Um there is nothing else that I uh can report today. Thank you for your service on that. You've done that for quite a while. Three years. Three years,

yeah. Thank you. Um Okay. Our next on the agenda is election of IU board representatives. Um so, recommendation of someone, we need someone to fill a current term ending June 30th of 2027. Would anybody like to nominate anyone? >> Yeah, I would like to nominate Mr. Santos. I I be happy to fill that role. Anyone else? Any other nominations? I would like to nominate myself. Any other nominations? Hearing none, uh roll call this. Any discussions would you would like to add anything to I Go ahead. I mean Um I guess I'd like to hear why people want to do it. Um it would help me Um I've I've it's horrible to me that there's this two people I'd I'd really love to see it you want to do it. Um so I guess I'd I'd

maybe that would help to make a difficult decision, you know? So I don't really Would either of you like to say something? I can speak. I am interested in this role because I think the partnership we have with the IU is extremely important. I would love to get to know more about it and be able to be involved in hearing the stories, the things I've heard about the IU um have all been very positive things and I think that my personality and one of the reasons I got involved with the school board was to learn more about people's stories and how we can support them to the board and relay that information that we need to relay back to each other, things that we need to vote on and things like that. I think Director

Santos would be equally amazing at the position. So I think either way I don't think we can go wrong and I will not be offended if it is not me. Um I just I saw a need and it would be something I would in the future be interested in learning about, but I am equally fine with having somebody else involved. Director Santos? Yes, thank you for that endorsement. Uh I appreciate it. I think that regardless of who gains a vote, we will be well served by either of us as members of the board. I'm also learning a little bit more about the IU. I appreciate Shamim's nomination nomination for the position. Uh personally, I I think that I can bring a really level head to this position. Uh I pride myself in hearing both sides

of you know, the the aisle, if you will, uh in order to provide the best results for not only our school district, but our community as a whole. And I think that I'll be a really good candidate for this position simply because uh I will be able to provide for the community in terms of understanding of the IU's needs, understanding of the school district's needs, and being able to navigate those waters effectively. Uh regardless of the outcome, I I think that either myself or our director Lamagino would be great for this position. Uh and again, thank you very much for the nomination. Go ahead. Well, um I I'd like to offer a rationale for um in in this case it's a difficult thing, but a rationale for backing. For me, I think I'm going to

back Megan on this. And here here's why. Totally think that you'd be a great at it. Um I I I do feel like the Saucon Valley partnership thing is is it deserves a lot of attention, and the borough is it is a big deal, the and the township is an even bigger deal, you know, and um that's something I know that you're new to that and and I I I I feel you know, it's kind of selfishly like and and jealousy like I want to keep you more focused on on that and then also you're doing the great um stuff with the Chamber of Commerce, which is also ties into that too and I guess I just feel like for me like if I I wish there were more of you both to go around,

you know, but it's like I think that that's my rationale, you know. No, absolutely. And respectfully, I wouldn't say that I'm new to the you know, communities needs. I think that I've been pretty plugged in to uh not only district's needs, but the county's needs. Uh I've done some work with the Chamber of Commerce. I've learned a lot. So, I have pretty good experience on not only Lower Saucon, but Hellertown's operations and you know, we will be uh working with both Hellertown and Lower Saucon their uh counties in order to you know, better provide a partnership between our district and theirs. So, I think it makes sense uh for me to take on this role. Okay, any other comments? Um yeah, I just um you know, I kind of I think both of them are

totally able to represent our board faithfully and uh provide excellent recommendations and insight for these uh I just um in order to make a decision, I had to make it up with something and um one of uh the people I'm nominating is already serving as our junior councilor in our uh partnership and I just think that we should I think we should vote the divvy up the duties a little bit and not expect the one person to do so much. So, nothing about ability or effort. Any other comments? Okay. Do roll call, please. Mr. William Brune. Uh Lomangino. Mr. Donald Carpenter. Abstain. Mrs. Vivian Demko. Director Lomangino. Mr. Sedrick Dettmar. Lomangino. Dr. Laurel Erickson-Parsons. Mrs. Megan Lomangino. Myself. Dr. Shamim Pakzad. Mr. Santos. Mr. Jay Santos. Myself. Dr. Jay Christian Tatu. Mr. Santos. That's three

for Mr. Santos. Okay. Thank you both for being willing to support it and congratulations Megan and again, thank you thank you very much. May I? I I just want to say uh congratulations Ms. Lomangino. You are going to see some amazing stuff that is happening at the at the IU and it's a it's a great partnership but the most important part of it is that it's a partnership that serves the most needy of our students. And and and I can't really sort of like you know think of a better cause for public education than to make sure that these kids are receiving the services that they need. Thank you both for standing too. I really, I really uh, that. I really appreciate that. It's It's a good problem to have. It's too many good people,

you know? Um, next on our agenda is voting of delegates, and this is the delegates for 2026. Piet. I'm sorry. I apologize. Please, PSBA representative report. I apologize. Um, so, uh, I don't have any, uh, enough that I gave the number of phones on the website from last time. Uh, one thing that came up is that, uh, the PSBA offers, um, board workshops on self-assessment. Um, specifically the self-assessments are complimentary. And I thought that this is something that we should maybe consider. Uh, the self-assessment, um, stands, uh, basically, uh, the team of 10, they receive, uh, forms, and, uh, we fill out a survey and evaluate how we are going to be able to build our board strong, where we feel that it's weak, and then the PSBA takes that and, uh, analyzes it and

provides feedback >> uh, suggestions on professional development and results, things like that. It's free, and I thought it might be worthwhile for us to maybe sit down and evaluate what we think we are good at or need work on related to that group. Um, then Excellent. following that, there's also the possible in-person workshop, which are not free, um, which would be, um, uh, sort of a session where we sit down for a few hours and work on something. One of them that I like stood out to me, and you don't have to do it through them, is, uh, setting board goals, which, um, you know, being more forward-looking, less reactive. I think that's a really good thing. So, Mhm. but, uh, but, you know, I I I think we should, uh, think about the board

self-assessment. I like um, put it on the ask for support, put it on the Yeah. Right. Thank you. One addition to that, uh there is required school director training opportunities in May. Uh so there are in-person sessions that have included, but live virtual trainings are available May 2nd and 16th. So we are able to register for those currently on the PSBA website. Uh and please attend if we haven't done our training. Thank you. within one year of you if you haven't All right. We're ready for the voting delegates now. Sorry, I'm not trying to rush things. Um so this is the 2026 PSBA Delegate Assembly. Um there is no virtual option, so um you have the flyer on this. Do we have anyone who would like to be a delegate? I would like to nominate

Mr. Brune for this. He has expressed interest in the past to participate. I think it's good if we can um have people go there actually and uh uh participate in the conversations. I don't know whether you're still uh interested and available, but uh I think if you are that's a that's a that's a good contribution that our board can make. What's the date again? November 7th. November 7th. It's a Saturday in Mechanicsburg. After election day, that's after, isn't it? On Yes. Yeah. Uh I think I would be interested in in going, yeah. I will also put my name forward. We can get that. We do get a second, right? You do get a second, yes. Yeah, we're a level three school, so yes, we get two. All right, anyone else? Uh if we need an

alternate, I'd like to put my name in the hat. Uh if either of you are unavailable November 7th, feel free to let me know. Uh think we have to fill out some form or something saying who our delegates Up until June 26th. June 26th. Yes, so. If something changes before that. I I would imagine we could send an updated form. I I Yeah, they aren't going to complain about that. So, uh >> I'll just say my name's William Brune. There you go. Just misrepresent yourself. I won't go there. Um So, um we'll have you as an alternate in case someone by that time by June realizes they can't go. Does anyone else? All right. So, uh do I have a motion to approve um Don Carpenter and Bill Brune as delegates? So moved. Second. Any

discussion? All those in favor say I. I. Opposed. Thank you two for volunteering. Do we have any board director initiated items? Anybody want to bring anything up? >> What does that mean exactly? Is that No, that that should be the stuff that gets emailed and Yeah, yeah. >> apologies. Sorry. Citizens inquiries. Bless you. I mean, okay. Any This is This is actually you you you put the apostrophe before S this time, right? Citizens inquiries. We'll have to change that. To match every meeting. Any board comments? Go ahead, Don. Uh I just to go back, I I was just a Board director initiated items, could could I get a reminder of what that is exactly? >> That's when three of us ask for something to be on the agenda. Uh okay. I see. Okay, so that's

not So, this is just like uh for board comments, that's also the new what a a new a new designation. Yeah, the the purpose of that was to just um make it very clear that if we're going to talk about something here, it's not something that we added to the agenda that can be debated and expanded upon. Yeah. >> bobs kind of >> Yeah. Um well, so I I just wanted to to ask. I had a I was at a a citizen's gathering and there was there was a citizen who asked um just asked about fuel costs and whether the district was impacted by like a the um increases in in in uh fuel costs and I I I'm just it whether the transportation department was affected by that and um I just wanted to

be able to answer them, but I thought I would mention it publicly just in case anybody is um interested. Now, if you recall, we locked in a bid, so we're set for the year and we have we approved our bid for next year, too, at this point, so we're locked in. >> I wish I had remembered that uh when when that person asked it and now they have a chance of knowing um the other was um um our turf grass, do we treat it with herbicides? How much does this cost and do we need to do it? We don't have to. We don't We don't have to. Just our grass? Or just the grass? Yeah, the grass, the the the grass the turf grass. The grass does get treated, yes. With with a herbicides? For

pesticides, yes, it does get yeah. And do we have any sense of how much that costs that and Uh I'm going to ask Mr. Fry. He might know better, but uh off the top of his head. Bob, I was going to say the cost usually is nothing, but if you're doing it it's going to cost a lot. I just wanted to pass on that question. I can follow up with Mr. Fry on that. Just as a a point of interest I have gone for a year without putting any of those things on my lawn and there's lots and lots of stuff growing besides just the grass. Yeah, it makes a big difference. I also second that. I definitely treat my lawn with certain things in order to prevent weeds and whatnot. So, I think it's

necessary. >> And some of it is too for the growth control so we don't lose our fields and you know other things that are being treated for making sure we're not losing our playing fields. If the concern is you know health and safety, I think maybe that could be addressed as well in order to make sure that our kids aren't being exposed to any harmful chemicals. I think with this person the concern is is bees. Got you. Okay. I think that they're concerned about honeybees and and I think it's called bombus uh pennsylvanicus. It's a the bumblebee. Yeah. And I we need those bees. They're declining in Pennsylvania the bumblebee. I found it fields. You know. Yeah. There are a lot of kids who don't like them allergic to them. So So, thank you. Okay.

Any other comments? I have more of a question than a comment and we've already approved this under personnel, but is there any significance to both the middle school administrative assistant and the high school administrative assistant resigning sort of at the same time? Is there anything Um hang on one second. The um, the one for the middle school um, closer to home. >> Excuse me. >> Work from home. We're going to um, discuss that tomorrow. >> I mean, it's just a moving closer to home. Yeah. Okay. Sorry. We just wanted to assure it wasn't anything confidential. Yeah, yeah. >> personal issue. I don't want any confidential information. I'm just wondering if there's like any significance to to that. Um, there's something that we should be aware of as a board that we can help with. Um,

but yeah, I don't know if there's no significance to both assistants resigning at the same time, then we're good. Thank you. Any other questions comments? All right. Moving on the announcements business meeting May 12th at 7:00 p.m. in high school audion and another one on May 26th 7:00 p.m. high school audion. Thank you very much. No further business. I call the meeting
